HERNE BAY ALTERATION
Location: HERNE BAY | AUCKLAND | NZ
Completed: 2006

The brief for this villa alteration project was a very typical one; demolish the rear lean-to, add a new open plan living area that is light and open, add an ensuite for the masterbedroom and redo bathrooms and landscaping. Instead of providing the typical response of a rather low inclined roof to the rear, we have extended the double gables of the villa, exposed as one large space. As the garden is East facing and the neighbour is close to the north, we have utilised large skylights to maximise all day sun. This creates a light and open feeling that is in complete sympathy with a villa while being obviously modern.
The scullery and laundry are combined behind the kitchen, which is a very practical daily layout, while also making entertainment easy.
