This Herne Bay villa had an existing basement area that was a collection of dysfunctional spaces. It had stacked car-parking underneath for one and a half cars, which meant that one car remained parked uncovered to the front yard.
We were engaged to make better use of both the interior and exterior space. Locating the double garage to the other side of the villa allowed us to create a courtyard that the family room opens on to. The children's rooms were located downstairs enabling the adults to gain a guest room and study upstairs.
This gave a great sense of achievement, as it effectively felt that we had managed to double the area of the house, when we had only added a double garage.
I am particularly pleased with the use of perspex to the garage and gate, in the way that it offers transparency. This is a theme we have explored in many projects.
