This was an opportunity to create an alphine aesthetic to an apartment building of quite a scale change for Arthurs Point, Queenstown.
48 two bedroom apartments over two blocks of four floors that by its scale would both try to define and reflect its location, with varied existing materiality and future aspirations. Arthurs Point had a number of alternative shingled chalets. We contrasted this with Siberian larch over thermally insulated concrete structure.
At the time of building it was the biggest Nudura Polyblock building in the southern hemisphere and we coupled this with an individual heat recovery unit per apartment, which is the only one I know of at this scale in New Zealand. The thermal performance through winter has been outstanding.
Masterplanning the remainder of the site included commercial land and 10 residential sites with the creation of their own modern guidelines.
